Congress must hear from those who want to protect radio from a new tax. Congress wants to impose a new performance fee that equates to a tax that will cost broadcasters billions of dollars. Its time to say no to a tax that will force many radio stations to close their doors or change formats.

I wish to go on record as strongly opposing the New Radio Tax. The new tax would have a devastating
effect on many radio stations in our land.

The people of Isreal wanted a king to rule them and many were evil, worshipping false gods and turning away from the One true God. They got what they wanted and cried out to the Lord because of how they suffered. The people in the U.S. wanted “change” and that is exactly what they are getting. But now they are grumbling about the changes being made and how it is affecting them. The Lord will go so long protecting us before He allows us what we want, even if it sows destruction to be reaped. Hang on folks, this is just the beginning.

So many people depend on radio–the handicapped, those who travel a lot in their jobs, people who need to work & can’t stop to watch TV, and those who live alone & need the ‘company’ it provides as they go about their business.
For all these years, radio has functioned well without extra regulation. Do we really need another bureaucratic boondoggle added to our lives? Radio has so much variety. Let’s keep this variety available in our diverse country!
Extra taxation is not needed. In the long run, it will cut down on radio stations & the profits they & their advertisers will make which will cut tax income. So, you have less available to the public & make less tax income! Logical? No.
Thank you so much.

I oppose any tax on radio stations. It is a thinly veiled attempt to silence opposition to the present administrations policies and actions. Free speech and opposing view points are fundamental to life in America. Stop the radio tax.

This is just another attempt to follow in an European manner–which is heavily taxed and the people are dependent upon the government. We lived in Scotland in the 80’s–yes, we had to purchase a “stamp” which was a tax on the radios and television that we had in the house. If you did not have the “stamp”, then you were fined. I just don’t get it–in a country where this was one of the prime reasons why our forefathers suffered the trials of becoming a new nation–so they and us could have freedom of speech. What is this all about? This administration wants it citizens to only hear what he wants us to know. This is something that I taught my children while they were growing up, if you can’t tell me what you are to (secret), then that is a clue to not do it. What happened to being transparent?

I would like to see a stop to all this ridiculous tax talk. Congress wants more and more, so they can spend more and more. What I would like to see is an independant company come in (from overseas, no ties to congress) and do a real audit. Then we’ll see where all the fruitless spending is going, this will stop all the tax increases.

In regards to this radio tax, is it a way to undermine the system and put out of business talk radio? Freedom of what?

I stongly oppose the new radio tax. It would be devastating to our awesome Christian radio staions. We need our Christian music to remain, let’s not let them take away our music too.

Plain and simple, this is AMERICA. Freedom of speech is a right, not only a privilege. ALL American citizens have a right to express their thoughts, perspectives & ideas thru speech, press and peaceful assembly, etc. It’s how people learn and grow. Otherwise, we are oppressed and nothing good comes out of oppression/discrimination. Also, government officials SERVE the people (not the other way around); therefore this basic human right serves to check & balance government officials so that they are held accountable for their actions. Freedom of speech should NOT be taxed. A RIGHT should NOT be taxed. Additionally, citizens & institutions are not only already taxed, but are over-taxed in a multi-level way on the same things. The government officials and ILLEGAL immigrants from ANY country are the ones needing to be taxed, especially since they do not put in to Social Security like the rest of us do. It is not fair or proper for citizens to be paying not only their own taxes, but someone else’s taxes, too. That’s what bankrupts the nation!

I strongly oppose the new radio tax. As the country/world becomes more globalized/centralized
the most important principles of liberty will be under attack, e.g. like the bill of rights.
It should come as no surprise that the first, second,…amendments would come under attack
the most. The first amendment exists so that people can disagree with the king, the latest
charismatic leader; the president, the opposition party etc. without being silenced. Without
independent and small radio stations and free airwaves the people cannot be educated/informed
and vote for the best candidates. Our whole representative form of government becomes a sham
without free independent radio/media. Without free radio you eventually get what you got under the
socialist tyrannies like communism/socialism. We already have most media in very few hands.
The fairness doctrine is another attempt to silence the people. Notice the use of the word “fairness”.
It reminds me of the name of the soviet newspaper, Pravda, which means “The Truth”.
Hope my reflections are useful. L.M.

Tax.. for playing music on a radio station? next they’ll be taxing toilet paper usage in our homes for crying out loud. Music not on radio, does not get heard, therefore does not get bought. It’s advertising for the artists for petes sakes. More and more taxes, price increases.. Not cool. Leave the radio the way it should be and find another pocket to pick please…if there are any left :/

Um how about this? Boycott the RIAA labels. I hope this thing passes and it results in stations turning away from the big four RIAA labels. Cant wait to watch them crumble. The record industry and radio industry have been working together to manipulate your tastes for the sake of $$$$ for too long. The big 4 labels make up only 2% of the worlds music yet get 82% of the airplay. Hmm? Something is certainly wrong there.

The only free radio is pirate radio!

I strongly oppose the radio tax - we are taxed enough as it is. There are so many people hurting financially and emotionally. It seems like since these are bad times people would want to help, not hurt us!!

I stongly oppose the new radio tax. It would be devastating to all radio stations but especially the Christian radio staions that we Christians need to listen to to get through all the persecution we undergo from people, like those who are trying to impose this tax, just because we are Christians and do not wish to be “of this world.” We need our Christian music to remain. They have taken prayer out of schools and the Ten Commandments out of public buildings, please do not let them take away our music too.

I agree with Gregg Kowalski, when he said “The people in the U.S. wanted “change” and that is exactly what they are getting. But now they are grumbling about the changes being made and how it is affecting them. The Lord will go so long protecting us before He allows us what we want, even if it sows destruction to be reaped. Hang on folks, this is just the beginning.”

The country is in the midst of a serious depression. The auto makers are filing for bankruptcy protection, Americans are loosing their jobs by the millions and the price of gas is sky rocketing. Another tax is not what the country needs at this time.
